Ways to support the ongoing fight for racial justice today!

By Tom Steyer

It is up to all of us to fight for racial justice every day. We must get comfortable being uncomfortable and confronting hatred everywhere in order to eradicate racism that exists in every aspect of our society.

Take these actions today, and then share this page to encourage other people to do the same.

  • Federal agents, following President Trump’s orders, have attacked Black Lives Matter protestors in Portland and detained them without cause. This is a clear violation of their constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and due process. Now Trump is sending officers to other cities, over the objections of their Democratic mayors and governors. Sign our petition to demand the withdrawal of these federal agents.
  • The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is piloting a six-week program in Chicago this fall called “Citizens Academy,” instructing civilians on defensive tactics, firearms familiarization, and targeted arrests. ICE claims the program is not intended to deputize civilians, but civil rights organizations have raised concerns. Creating a “citizen’s force” would turn neighbors against one another. Email ICE’s Chicago field office and tell them to shut this program down.
  • Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African-American emergency medical technician, was killed on March 13, 2020, by Louisville police officers executing a no-knock search warrant. One of the officers was fired; the other officers were placed on administrative reassignment. None of them face criminal charges. The Kentucky Attorney General, Daniel Cameron, is now leading the investigation — call him to demand justice for Breonna Taylor.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified incidents of hate against the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community, with anti-Chinese rhetoric fueling racism against Asian Americans. The Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council, Chinese for Affirmative Action, and the Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University have created the website “Stop AAPI Hate”. If you have been the target of one of these incidents, please report your story here.
  • Ava DuVernay’s Oscar-nominated documentary 13th investigates the racist roots of America’s rampant mass incarceration starting with our 13th Amendment, demonstrating how the U.S. prison system is the latest iteration of our enduring racial caste system. Watch for free on YouTube.
